The Assistive Technology Lab is designed to assist people with low or no vision.
It is located on the ground floor of the Library Building, next to the lockers, and houses the following equipment and software:
- JAWS - software which can read out the text on a computer screen, as well as navigate around the computer screen
- Open Book OCR- software which can scan printed documents, speech and some graphics into readable text, that can then be read by a screen reader such as JAWS
- Talking Scientific Calculator - a calculator which speaks out the numbers being pressed and operations being done, and the result
- Chatty InftyReader - software that can convert math equations in printed format into LaTeX or MathML which is then readable by screen readers
- PIAF Tactile Image Maker - a software and printer combination that allows you to print graphics on special paper on which you can touch and feel the graphics
- Duxbury Braille Translator - software which converts text into Braille, allowing it to be printed on a supported Braille printer
