FAQs
How do I connect to the LUMS wireless network?
Please click here for instructions on how to access the wireless network for both computers and mobile phones.
I have an official visitor, an upcoming meeting or event for which I need to give my guests wireless access. How can they get wireless access?
Please send an email to the IST Helpdesk mentioning the number of logins required, the names of the visitors, their CNIC numbers (or passport numbers in case of foreignors), and how long you need the access for - well ahead of the event.
My phone keeps prompting me for a password. What could be the problem?
If you have recently changed your LUMS password, your phone may keep prompting you for your wifi password. If you have recently changed your email password, you may stop receiving LUMS emails on your phone. In both cases, update your wifi settings or email client with your new password. Note that your email password is not the same as your LUMS password.
My password has expired. What should I do?
Visit or email the IST Helpdesk to request a password reset.
What are the LUMS password rules?
You password should be a combination of minimum 8 alpha-numeric characters with at least one uppercase or special character. It should not contain any part of your name/surname and should not be your old password.
How do I top-up my print quota?
Please contact the Global Copy Shop located above the superstore to get a scratch card, which you can use to top up your quota at their machines located at the computing labs.
Can I play computer games in the computing labs?
Computer games, including online games are not allowed in any of the computing labs.
Where can I buy a laptop?
During the first few weeks of the Fall semester, LUMS holds a computer fair, during which leading computer vendors display their latest computers and give special discounts. Other than that, laptops are available at good prices at HyperStar, Hafeez Center and many other outlets - but always ask if the warranty is valid and what it covers.
Is there a way I can buy software that is specially discounted for students?
LUMS does not sell software, but students are automatically registered for Microsoft DreamSpark, which provides students a selection of Microsoft software for free.
I am a hostel resident. Can I use my own wireless router?
No! This is a violation of policy and you will be fined, and the router will be confiscated. Your own router will cause interference with the LUMS wireless network, causing disconnections and slow transmission for users in your vicinity. This is the leading cause of wireless problems in hostels.
Are any applications or websites blocked at LUMS?
LUMS does not block any websites other than the ones already blocked by PTA. However, we block torrent downloads across campus, except for faculty residents during the night time.
Somebody at LUMS sent me a nasty email to my LUMS email address. What should I do?
If you are an employee, report it to HR. If you are a student, report it to the Office of Student Affairs.
When I graduate from LUMS, do I get to keep my LUMS mail address?
You can sign up via the IST Helpdesk for our forwarding service. Any email sent to your LUMS email address is automatically forwarded to an email address that you provide. However, you cannot send emails from your LUMS email, as it is simply forwarded and no mailbox actually exists.
Why isn’t my LUMS email password the same as my other LUMS passwords (e.g. Zambeel, LMS, etc.)?
Your email password is different due to a technical reason (email is hosted by Microsoft). However, your LUMS username and password is the same for most other systems. If you reset one, the other will not be affected.
I am an employee. How can I check and apply for leave online?
Staff members can apply for and view their leaves, salary slips, attendance and employee profile by logging into the SAP ePortal. The leaves function is not yet available for faculty. An ePortal login and password can be obtained by emailing the IST Helpdesk.
